Valerie Butter Braschel, M.S., BCIAC

Biofeedback and Self-Regulation Specialist

Valerie Butter Braschel is a biofeedback and self-regulation specialist, and health and wellness educator. She is certified by and Senior Fellow of the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America. For over 25 years, Valerie has worked as an educator or therapist, focusing on improving people's ability to manage mind-body processes that promote health and healing. Early on she developed an expertise in stress management and relaxation training which continues to be an instrumental component in her clinical and educational applications. Valerie has served in a variety of settings including community health promotion, higher education, business training and development, behavioral medicine, pain management and physical rehabilitation.

Valerie received a Master of Science degree in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Consciousness Studies from Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, Illinois. She combined studies regarding traditional educational and health psychology with studies of Eastern and Asian mind-body practices. At that time she completed a graduate practicum in biofeedback training. She also attended NIU during her undergraduate work, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical and Health Education with specializations in movement education and aquatics.

Valerie's professional efforts have focused primarily with the Biofeedback Society of Illinois, having served as president twice and as a board member for many years. In addition, she has been a long standing member of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback.

Due to Valerie's philosophy that an effective health educator needs to model what they teach, she remains committed to a wellness lifestyle including both competitive and recreational physical activity, whole food nutritional practices, and use of mind-body techniques for optimum performance, and stress and pain reduction.
